A new daily tablet called Wegovy® (semaglutide 25 mg) has just been approved in the United States — the first ever oral treatment of its kind to support weight loss. It’s designed for adults living with obesity or those who are overweight with related health conditions.

Why This News Matters
Most medicines in this group (called GLP-1 therapies) have previously only come as weekly injections — like Wegovy®, Ozempic® for diabetics and Mounjaro®. While effective, many people feel unsure about using injections, or simply prefer not to.
The new Wegovy® pill offers a convenient, once-a-day tablet, which could help more people feel confident in starting or continuing treatment.
How Well Does It Work?
In clinical trials, people who took the tablet as prescribed lost, on average, 16.6% of their body weight — and around 1 in 3 people lost 20% or more.
This is very similar to results seen with the injectable version, which means the tablet is likely to be just as effective when taken properly.
