MOUNJARO

What is MOUNJARO?

Mounjaro is a scientifically proven prescription only medicine now available from our prescribing Pharmacist. Mounjaro contains an innovative medication called Tirzepatide which has been shown to effectively reduce energy intake, curb appetite, and promote feelings of fullness, making it easier to maintain a balanced diet and achieve your wellness objectives.

Mounjaro comes in five dose strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 12mg and 15mg.
It acts like 2 naturally-occurring hormones in your body. These hormones act on your gut and brain to make you feel full more quickly and for longer.

How does Mounjaro work?

Tirzepatide is a novel medication that works by targeting multiple pathways in the body involved in regulating blood sugar levels and appetite. It belongs to a class of drugs known as dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. These hormones play crucial roles in controlling blood sugar levels and appetite.

Are there any side effects?

Every person is different and not everyone will experience side-effects from Mounjaro. Side effects are usually mild and short-lived while your body adjusts to the medication and dose. For this reason we increase the dose slowly every month. Common side effects mostly affect the gut for the first few weeks, e.g. nausea, diarrhoea, stomach cramps and bloating.
As experts on medicines, our Pharmacist will advise how to manage Mounjaro to suit you best.

How do I use MOUNJARO?

Mounjaro is contained in a pen-like injector using a very fine needle it can be inserted gently into the skin on the abdomen, upper arm or thigh. It’s a WEEKLY injection. It must never be injected into a vein or muscle. Our Pharmacist will explain how to use the pen.
Mounjaro starts at a 2.5mg strength and increases each month or as advised by our prescriber.

While tirzepatide can be highly effective for many individuals, there are certain groups who should avoid using this medication. These include:

– Pregnant or breastfeeding women (or those trying to become pregnant) as the safety of tirzepatide during pregnancy and lactation has not been established.
– Those with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2), as tirzepatide may increase the risk of thyroid tumors.
