Menopause (FSH) Blood Test – Neath Clinic & UK Home Kits

Our menopause blood test measures Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and related hormone levels to help determine whether you are entering or have reached menopause. Available as a 15-minute in-clinic test in Neath or as a convenient home test kit with UK laboratory analysis.

What Does an FSH Test Measure?

The FSH blood test measures Follicle-Stimulating Hormone — a key hormone that regulates ovulation and the menstrual cycle. As oestrogen levels fall during menopause, the body releases more FSH to stimulate the ovaries, making it a useful indicator of menopausal status.

In some cases, the test may be combined with LH (Luteinising Hormone) or Oestradiol (E2) for a more complete hormonal profile.

Why Check for Menopause?

Knowing whether your symptoms are due to menopause, perimenopause or another cause can help guide treatment and support options such as HRT or lifestyle adjustments. The test may be suitable if you experience:

  • Irregular or missed periods.
  • Hot flushes or night sweats.
  • Changes in mood or concentration.
  • Sleep disturbance or fatigue.
  • Changes in libido or vaginal dryness.
  • Concerns about fertility or early menopause.

What Happens During a 15-Minute Appointment?

  1. Consultation: we discuss your symptoms, cycle changes and any medications.
  2. Sample collection: a quick finger-prick or venous blood sample.
  3. Analysis: your sample is tested on-site using the latest diagnostics or sent to a UK-accredited laboratory.
  4. Results explained: our pharmacist will explain your hormone levels and next steps.

Home Menopause Test Kits

Our home menopause test kits allow you to check your FSH and oestrogen levels from the comfort of your home. Results are available within a few days, with pharmacist support to help you interpret them.

Understanding Your Results

High FSH and low oestrogen typically indicate menopause. However, hormone levels can fluctuate, especially during perimenopause, so results should be interpreted alongside symptoms. We can discuss:

  • Whether you are likely to be peri- or post-menopausal.
  • When to repeat testing or consider further investigations.
  • Options for managing symptoms naturally or with treatment such as HRT.
